New senior appointment to lead Serco's UK transportation business
Date : 11 January 2010
International service company Serco today announces the appointment of Jeroen Weimar as Managing Director of its award-winning UK transport business.
Jeroen Weimar has a background as an economist, management consultant and transport service operator for leading public and private sector organisations.
He joins Serco in March 2010 from his current post as Transport for London's Chief Operating Officer for Enforcement and Compliance. His current responsibilities include the delivery of transport policing, congestion charging, civil enforcement and licensing services across London's Underground, bus, suburban rail and road networks.
Jeroen will be responsible for Serco's transport business in the UK. This includes the National Traffic Control Centre, national motorway traffic infrastructure services, the Docklands Light Railway, the installation and maintenance of road safety cameras throughout the UK and Serco's joint ventures with NedRailways that operate Merseyrail and Northern Rail. He will also oversee the implementation and delivery of the London Cycle Hire Scheme later this year.
His appointment follows the promotion of Nick Brown to the Group's Executive Committee and his appointment to lead a new Global Transport function.
Serco already designs and operates metro, rail, road, air traffic control and ferry services in the UK, North America, United Arab Emirates and Australia on behalf of governments around the world. The new Global Transport function will help grow the Group's presence in the global transport market and also spearhead the Company's expansion into new geographies.
As Chief Executive of Serco Integrated Transport, Nick has already overseen the growth of the company's transport business both in the UK and internationally and helped deliver a wide range of multi-modal transport solutions in Asia, Europe, the Middle-East and North America.
Christopher Hyman, Chief Executive of Serco Group plc, said: "Our international experience shows that the effective delivery of transportation, particularly metro, rail and air traffic control, benefits the travelling public and is a major first step to developing deep relationships with governments and other providers in that region. From that base, over time we can build a broader services business. Nick has an outstanding and proven track record of delivering such growth."
Jeroen will report to Tom Riall, Chief Executive of Serco Civil Government, as a member of the division's Executive Management Team.
Tom Riall said: "I am delighted that Jeroen will lead our UK transport business. He combines outstanding operational expertise in transportation with an understanding and commitment to improving public services. He will be a significant addition to our team."
