Serco secures place on DWP Work Programme Framework
Date : 26 November 2010
Serco's welfare to work business has been awarded a place on the Department for Work and Pensions' (DWP) new Framework for the Provision of Employment Related Support Services in seven regions, the maximum number that could be awarded to one organisation.
This means Serco is now able to bid for the Work Programme and other future contracts to support long-term unemployed people into work in the following areas:
. North West
. Yorkshire and the Humber
. East Midlands
. West Midlands
. South East
The Work Programme is a key part of the Government's reforms to deliver a 21st century welfare system. It will replace all current back-to-work schemes and provide a coherent package of support for people out of work, regardless of the barriers they face or the benefits they claim.
The framework competition identified organisations that have the capacity and expertise to deliver the Work Programme and future contracts that will help individuals to select, train for, obtain and retain employment suitable for their ages and capacities. Suppliers will be paid based on results according to agreed criteria.
Serco's established model for delivering welfare-to-work programmes is to work with providers and partners from the private, public and voluntary sectors who have vital local knowledge and expertise to offer highly effective, tailored solutions for jobseekers. Serco will build on this model, and success to date in delivering welfare-to-work services in Wales, Greater Manchester and the West Midlands, to create an exciting new solution for the Work Programme.
Richard Johnson, Managing Director of Serco Welfare to Work said:
"We are delighted to have the opportunity to help deliver the Government's new Work Programme. This gives us a chance to build on our experience and proven success in providing welfare-to-work services, and to expand delivery into other regions.
"Working with our local partners we have already helped thousands of people to get jobs, and we want to improve the life chances of thousands more."
